5 Ways to Love Yourself this Month

Sharing your love with family and friends deepens connections. Knowing that the relationships we forge and build on the foundations of love will someday be our legacies lends a sense of fulfillment to life.
It’s been said that to love others, we need to love ourselves first. Loving yourself allows you to set boundaries and create healthier, more meaningful relationships. Practicing self-love also paves the way to the positive mindset that keeps you assertive and living a life of gratitude.
Here are five ways to love yourself this month:
1. Write Yourself a Love Letter.
Take time to express self-love in writing. Write it down in a journal, in the notes app on your phone or a piece of scented stationery. There are no rules except that you write to yourself in the third person. Addressing a letter to yourself in the third person may feel awkward at first, but you’ll find taking a step outside of yourself helps you recognize all the attributes you value about who you are.
2. Take Yourself on Your Ideal Date.
Why wait for someone else to take you out when you know yourself best? Go for a walk, pack a picnic, watch a sunset, go to the movies or make a reservation at your favorite restaurant. It could be a cozy night in with popcorn watching your favorite rom-com, or it could be a weekend at the spa for the complete pampering package. Just do something for yourself.
3. Encourage Yourself to Grow.
Pushing yourself to learn new things and stretch in the process is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Value yourself enough to know you deserve a journey filled with new knowledge, discoveries and opportunities. Enroll in a class to learn a dish or a language you’ve always been interested in. Participate in a workshop that will help sharpen your skills or boost your confidence to pursue a passion.
4. Treat Yourself to Something You Loved as a Child.
We all have sights, sounds, tastes and smells that fill us with nostalgia. This month, treat yourself to something you loved when you were younger and may not have enjoyed for years. Relive your childhood by camping out in your backyard, eating a stack of chocolate chip pancakes with whipped cream and candy sprinkles or making tie-dye shirts. Create a playlist of your favorite songs growing up and have a dance party.
5. Buy One Item That’s Not on Sale.
Times are tough; it’s true. But we deserve to treat ourselves using our hard-earned money every so often. This month, buy yourself something that’s not discounted or from the sale rack. It doesn’t have to be expensive or big, but it should be something you want that you’ve been holding off on buying. It could be bath products, make-up, a houseplant, a journal or shoes. Spoiling yourself with little indulgences is your declaration that you are worthy of self-love.
